NepalToday for iOS

Privacy Policy

NepalToday does not require an account, use advertising identifiers, or track you across apps, websites, or devices.

Effective: August 18, 2026

01

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Siris Technology (“Siris,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the NepalToday iOS app, visit siristechnology.com, or contact us.

The short version

We use a randomly generated installation ID—not a name, email address, advertising ID, or device fingerprint—to remember your settings and personalize NepalToday on that installation.

02

Information we handle

Anonymous installation information

When NepalToday is first opened, our server issues a random installation ID and secret. The secret is stored in the iOS Keychain. We use this credential to associate the following information with that installation:

  • App settings, such as pinned categories, followed or muted topics, notification preferences, quiet hours, and podcast download preferences.
  • Private app state, such as saved stories, reading history, likes or dislikes, podcast follows and playback state, and FM favorites.
  • Usage events needed to personalize the feed, including story impressions, opens, reading time, reading completion, saves, reactions, publisher-link opens, and notification opens.
  • Technical timestamps, such as when the installation was created or last used, and the app’s timezone.

We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or a user account in the app. We do not use the Apple advertising identifier, fingerprint your device, or combine this installation activity across devices.

Location and weather

If you allow location access, the app requests an approximate location from iOS and sends it through Apple WeatherKit to show local weather. Your precise location is not sent to or stored on the NepalToday server. If you decline, the app uses Kathmandu for weather. You can change location permission at any time in iOS Settings.

Notifications

If you enable notifications, the app sends an Apple Push Notification service (APNs) device token and its development or production environment to our server. We use it only to deliver the notifications you enable. Notification preferences and quiet hours remain associated with the anonymous installation.

Crash and error diagnostics

We use Firebase Crashlytics, provided by Google, to understand crashes and selected app failures. Crashlytics may receive an installation identifier created by Firebase, crash stack traces, app and operating-system versions, device model and technical state, and sanitized error details. We do not attach your NepalToday installation ID, article or episode titles, content URLs, push token, name, or email address to these reports. We do not use Firebase Analytics.

AI-assisted grouping and summaries

For stories covered by multiple publishers, NepalToday may send publisher article text and related source metadata to an external AI service provider to group related reports, assign topics, and create a shared English overview. We do not include your NepalToday installation ID, reading history, preferences, saves, reactions, push token, location, or contact-form details in these AI requests. The resulting overview is attached to the story and is not generated uniquely for you. Every original publisher source remains linked.

Contact form and email

If you contact us, we receive the name, email address, subject, message, and any other information you choose to provide. Website form submissions are processed by Netlify. Standard network information, such as an IP address and browser details, may be processed by our hosting and infrastructure providers for delivery, security, and abuse prevention.

03

How we use information

We use the information described above only to:

  • Provide, secure, and maintain NepalToday and this website.
  • Group related publisher reports, assign topics, and generate shared AI-assisted story summaries.
  • Personalize news and podcast recommendations for an anonymous installation.
  • Remember settings, saves, reactions, follows, favorites, playback state, and reading history.
  • Deliver notifications you choose to enable and respect quiet hours and topic mutes.
  • Diagnose crashes, fix failures, prevent abuse, and measure aggregate product reliability.
  • Respond to support, feedback, and privacy requests.

We do not sell personal information. We do not serve behaviorally targeted advertising. We do not track users across third-party apps or websites.

04

Service providers and external publishers

We disclose limited information to service providers only as needed to operate the service:

  • Apple provides iOS, WeatherKit, and APNs. Apple processes location requests and notification delivery under its own privacy terms.
  • Google Firebase Crashlytics processes diagnostic data to help us identify and fix crashes and selected failures.
  • AI service providers process publisher article content and source metadata to support report grouping, topic assignment, and shared story summaries. They do not receive your NepalToday installation ID or private app activity in these requests.
  • Netlify hosts this website and processes contact-form submissions.
  • Infrastructure providers host the NepalToday API and operational systems on our behalf.

These providers are required to protect information under their applicable terms and privacy commitments. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights or safety, or as part of a business transfer with appropriate safeguards.

NepalToday links to original news publishers and plays publisher-hosted live FM streams. When you open a publisher link or play a publisher-hosted stream, that publisher receives the network information normally sent by your device and applies its own privacy policy. NepalToday records that a source link was opened, but not what you do on the publisher’s site.

05

Retention and deletion

  • Raw engagement events are retained for up to 90 days.
  • Weekly interest summaries are retained for about 182 days; monthly interest summaries may be retained for up to 24 months.
  • Articles and server-side podcast audio or metadata are retained for up to 180 days and 90 days, respectively. These are content records, not identity records.
  • Crashlytics retains crash reports and associated identifiers according to Google’s retention policy, currently 90 days before removal begins.
  • Operational logs are bounded and generally retained for up to 30 days.
  • Contact messages are kept only as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain support records, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.

Installation settings, private app state, push tokens, and longer-lived interest summaries remain while they are needed to provide and protect the service. They are associated only with the random installation credential and are not connected to a NepalToday account, name, or email address.

NepalToday does not currently provide an individual deletion mechanism for server-held installation data. Because we do not collect account or contact information in the app, a message sent through this website cannot be matched to a particular installation. Uninstalling NepalToday removes data stored in the app’s local container, but it does not delete the corresponding server record. The retention periods described above continue to apply.

You may request deletion of a message you sent through our contact form by emailing info@siristechnology.com or using the contact form with the same email address.

06

Your choices

  • Use NepalToday without creating an account.
  • Follow, unfollow, or mute topics and change pinned categories in the app.
  • Save or unsave stories, remove reactions, change podcast follows, and manage FM favorites.
  • Enable, disable, or limit notifications in NepalToday and iOS Settings.
  • Allow or deny location access in iOS Settings. Kathmandu weather is used when location is unavailable.
  • Remove data stored in the app’s local container by uninstalling NepalToday. This does not delete server-held installation data.
  • Request deletion of a contact message by contacting us from the same email address.

07

Security, children, and policy changes

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the information we handle, including HTTPS transport and secret-backed installation authentication. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

NepalToday is a general-audience news app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it.

We may update this policy as NepalToday changes. We will post the revised policy here and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we handle information, we will provide additional notice when appropriate.
